Robert Carey, aged eight
Part 2 of a short story series about the young Robert Carey - and in case you don't already have it, you can get part 1 as well, A Pest of a Boy.
My Lord Hunsdon and his youngest son, Robin, arrive in Berwick in August 1568. Robin is eight years old, old enough to be prenticed. Lord Hunsdon is the new Governor and Robin finds that he is the newest and lowliest stable boy in the huge Berwick Garrison stables. Fearing boredom more than death (or his mother), Robin loves the idea.
Will Robin find his feet amongst the northern lads who say they can’t understand a word he says? And what will happen when the local reiving headmen, who are loyal to the exiled Scottish Queen Mary, find out that he’s there?
